When I’m not here being therapeutic, I love to be outside, read avidly, take photos, and laugh with my friends as much as possible.

40 Uses for WD-40:
1. Protects silver...

museumofusefulthings:

40 Uses for WD-40:

1. Protects silver from tarnishing.

2. Removes road tar and grime from cars.

3. Cleans and lubricates guitar strings.

4. Gives floors that ‘just-waxed’ sheen without making them slippery.

5. Keeps flies off cows. (I love this one!)

6. Restores and cleans chalkboards.

7. Removes lipstick stains.

8. Loosens stubborn zippers.

9. Untangles jewelry chains.

10. Removes stains from stainless steel sinks.

11. Removes dirt and grime from the barbecue grill.

12. Keeps ceramic/terra cotta garden pots from oxidizing.

13. Removes tomato stains from clothing.

14. Keeps glass shower doors free of water spots.

15. Camouflages scratches in ceramic and marble floors.

16. Keeps scissors working smoothly.

17. Lubricates noisy door hinges on vehicles and doors in homes.

18. Removes black scuff marks from the kitchen floor - Use WD-40 for those nasty tar and scuff marks on flooring. It doesn’t seem to harm the finish and you won’t have to scrub nearly as hard to get them off. Just remember to open some windows if you have a lot of marks.

19. Bug guts will eat away the finish on your car if not removed quickly! Use WD-40!

20. Gives a children’s playground gym slide a shine for a super fast slide.

21. Lubricates gear shift and mower deck lever for ease of handling on riding mowers…

22. Rids kids rocking chairs and swings of squeaky noises.

23. Lubricates tracks in sticking home windows and makes them easier to open..

24. Spraying an umbrella stem makes it easier to open and close.

25. Restores and cleans padded leather dashboards in vehicles, as well as vinyl bumpers.

26. Restores and cleans roof racks on vehicles.

27. Lubricates and stops squeaks in electric fans

28. Lubricates wheel sprockets on tricycles, wagons, and bicycles for easy handling.

29. Lubricates fan belts on washers and dryers and keeps them running smoothly.

30. Keeps rust from forming on saws and saw blades, and other tools.

31. Removes splattered grease on stove.

32. Keeps bathroom mirror from fogging.

33. Lubricates prosthetic limbs.

34. Keeps pigeons off the balcony (they hate the smell).

35. Removes all traces of duct tape.

36. Spray it on their arms, hands, and knees to relieve arthritis pain.

37. WD-40 attracts fish. Spray a little on live bait or lures and you will be catching the big one in no time. Also, it’s a lot cheaper than the chemical attractants that are made for just that purpose. Keep in mind though, using some chemical laced baits or lures for fishing are not allowed in some states.

38. Use it for fire ant bites. It takes the sting away immediately and stops the itch.

39. Removes crayon from walls. Spray on the mark and wipe with a clean rag.

40. If you sprayed WD-40 on the distributor cap, it would displace the moisture and allow the car to start.

The basic ingredient is Fish Oil. Saw Picture here.
Derweze, also known as the door to hell, is a 70 meter wide hole in the middle of the Karakum desert in Turkmenistan. The hole was formed in 1971 when a team of soviet geologists had their drilling rig collapse when they hit a cavern filled with natural gas. In an attempt to avoid poisonous discharge, they decided to burn it off, thinking that the gas would be depleted in only a few days. Derweze is still burning today

Imagine, for a moment, that you’re a publisher hearing a pitch about a children’s book whose tangled plot braids together quantum physics, fractions and megaparsecs (a measure for distances in intergalactic space). The book also casually tosses out phrases in French, Italian, German and ancient Greek. Sound like the next kids’ best-seller to you?

It didn’t to the many publishers who rejected Madeleine L’Engle’s A Wrinkle in Time, which turns 50 this year. The novel was an immediate hit with young readers and with critics when it was published, and it won the Newbery Medal in 1963. Since then, it has remained a beloved favorite of children and adults alike.

But it almost didn’t see the light of day. At the time, L’Engle already had six books to her name, but publishers were perplexed by her latest.

dejoejohn:

Athlete Aimee Mullins

“Born without fibulae in both legs, Aimee’s medical prognosis was discouraging; she was told she would never walk, and would likely spend the rest of her life using a wheelchair. In an attempt for an outside chance at independent mobility, doctors amputated both her legs below the knee on her first birthday. The decision paid off. By age two, she had learned to walk on prosthetic legs, and spent her childhood doing the usual athletic activities of her peers: swimming, biking, softball, soccer, and skiing, always alongside “able-bodies” kids.”

Berry once punched Keith Richards in the face for tapping him on the shoulder, and has a reputation for being both ornery and withdrawn, but today he isn’t either of those things. He’s gracious, in a southern sort of way. Pleased to meet you. He shakes hands and his hands swallow up the hands of his guest. He once was as handsome as Elvis, and he’s still got a great face, and eyes that don’t seem so much cruel or aloof as just kind of wry and sharp and maybe a bit amused, like he’s in on some sort of joke.

A few questions about this cover: Why the blue skin? — Why the people arguing inside the blueman’s glasses? — Why the unibrow?

Be prepared for a good laugh: The 20 Worst LIFE Covers

life:

It’s no secret that legendary ‘60 Minutes’ commentator Andy Rooney, who died on November 4, 2011 at the age of 92 — was a world-class complainer. Virtually no group, product, or holiday has escaped his often irascible commentary, and here are some of his most memorable targets.

What are the great Wynton Marsalis albums?

What are the great Wynton Marsalis albums?

It's been awhile

It’s been awhile since I have posted anything here.

The kid is enjoying her first sememster of college.

(I am plugging along in my classes as well, though enjoyment might be too strong of a word.)

Work is, well, work. I am looking for a different job. Not because I hate this one, but because I am hitting a snag with medical insurance, and figure that will be easier get if I work for a larger business rather than a sole proprietor.

The bigest change of late is that I am in a relationship. I have been dating someone for the past couple of months, and I am enjoying it immensely. It’s like hanging out with one of my best friends…with perks :p

After being single for five years, I wasn’t sure how I would adapt to being in a relationship, but I am loving it.

So, I am happy to report, life is good. Dropping fifteen pounds and losing the headache of trying to obtain single policy medical insurance coverage would make it better, but just as it is, life is pretty darn good. :)

"A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies. It is about 40 minutes from my house, and a bit of a dive. Okay, it’s very much a dive.

I brought a bag with me, because I didn’t think I would be up to a late night drive home after a few beers, and her boyfriend lives a couple of blocks from the bar.

While she told me I could stay on his couch, apparently her boyfriend also told one of his friends from out of town he could have the couch as well.

Great.

I didn’t worry about it too much as I knew we would be out late and I would be up early to drive home. The most we would be on the couch together would be a few hours. It’d be fine, right?

There I go being naive again.

I got to the couch around 4am and immediately fell asleep. Johnny showed up pounding on the door at almost 5am and woke us up. After some joking with his buddy, he climbed on the couch, and immediately tried to grope me. I politely said to him “I don’t know you. You don’t get to touch me there.” He backed off for a few minutes, then came in with his moves again. “Please stop. I don’t even know your last name.” This prompted him to give me his last name, and to even spell it for me. *eye roll*

Now, in case your wondering why I didn’t just lay on the floor, the house is old with hard wood floors, and when we got back to the house that night, the dog had went to the bathroom in several spots on the living room floor. I wasn’t about to get down on that to sleep.

Johnny had recently broke up with his girlfriend of several years, and I figured he was drunk, and simply trying to compensate for being dumped. I also thought he would pass out any time. All I had to do was wait it out.

It was a long wait. It seemed every time I would doze off I would be woken by incoming hands.

Is there couch etiquette for two strangers stuck on a couch together? A handbook mayhap? There ought to be. I didn’t want to create a huge fuss, as he was an old friend of the man whose couch I was sleeping on, yet I was growing weary of the jr high like attempts at making a move.

He must have dozed off somewhere between 6 and 7, and I woke up at 8.

I woke him as well, at which point he got up off the couch, stretched, complained of his back hurting, walked to a door that was shut, opened it, and LAID DOWN ON THE MATTRESS THAT WAS LAYING ON THE FLOOR!!!!!!!

Yes, boys and girls, there was a mattress in another room the entire time.

I didn’t need to share the couch at all. I didn’t need to swat hands away. Pry his drunken head from their attempts to locate my nether regions. Nope. He could have been IN ANOTHER ROOM ALL BY HIMSELF!!!

As my friend Nick would say “No good deed goes unpunished.” In this case of couch sharing, it most definitely holds to be true.
